Kevin Brewington Officially Announces School Board Candidacy

Daniel Prince

Jordan Jeter has filed to run against Brewington

As WBCU News reported yesterday, Kevin Brewington has filed to run for the School Board District 6 seat left vacant after the death of Frank M. Hart. Brewington sent us his official announcement, the full text of which you can find on our WBCU Facebook page.

He opens by saying, “First, my family wants to extend our prayers to Mr. Frank Hart’s family for his passing. He was a veteran like myself and a true servant to the people of this country. From the US Navy to education and beyond, he has laid the groundwork for many in this state. We as Union County lost a great man, and his knowledge and legacy cannot be replaced.”

Brewington attended Jonesville schools throughout his years in school up until consolidation. He graduated from Union County High School before serving in the military from 2010-2013. He was seriously injured by an IED in 2011 and is 100% medically retired. He is married to Hannah Brewington and has two children, Tinsley and Jayci. He is a member of Putman Baptist Church and is a member of the Union Civitan Club. He serves as an ambassador for three nonprofit organizations: The Greatest Generation Foundation, Tunnels 2 Towers, and Helicopters for Heroes. He co-owns All American Flooring Specialties, LLC, with Trey Newton since 2021.

He says he believes this is an opportunity to make changes and be a difference in his community of Jonesville and Union County to bring everyone together to do what’s right for our education system. He has seven areas he wants to focus on if elected: Competitive pay with surrounding counties to retain teachers and hire new ones; increase reading and math scores and graduation rate; keep taxpayers aware of district spending and stay within the budget; look at facilities in light of community growth and growth within the school system to prepare for the future; get students ready for success after graduation, whether that means college, technical school, or workforce; continue partnerships with USC Union, Spartanburg Community College, and Union County; and ensure we have a curriculum within our morals and values for education, not an indoctrination of opinions and beliefs.

He closed by thanking the county for its support of him over the past 11 years since his injury in Afghanistan, and he asks for continued support and for your vote for those living in School Board District 6.

According to scvotes.gov, one other person has filed to run in the special election. Jordan Jeter, of Wingfield Drive, filed paperwork yesterday to run against Brewington in the special election, which is set for April 11.
