McDonald's Manager Charged With Theft of Money at Gas Station

Daniel Prince

Man accidentally dropped $550 while paying at gas station

A Union woman was arrested for petit larceny after she picked up money that a man dropped at a gas station. PSO Malik Brown called the victim, who stated that on January 29, he went to Murphy’s gas station. While there, he dropped approximately $500 or $600 on the ground, and the woman behind him picked it up. Brown went to the gas station to watch the video. Footage showed the man pull a large amount of money from his pockets to pay for his items. While getting the money out, he dropped several bills without noticing. Once he paid for his items and turned to leave, the video showed the woman behind him pick up the money. The cashier identified her as the second-shift manager at McDonald’s. The video showed the woman getting into her car and leaving. Brown went to McDonald’s and saw a vehicle he believed to be the one in the video. He ran the tag, which came back to a woman with the last name of Bright. Inside McDonald’s, he saw a woman that matched the individual seen on the camera footage. He then called upper-level management with McDonald’s to get the woman’s name. They told him her name was Janie Bright. 53-year-old Janie Lee Bright was arrested Thursday and charged with petit larceny. The total amount of money taken was $550.
