Hospital could be completed within two years
In a move seven and a half years in the making, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System announced at an event for employees Thursday plans to build a new facility to replace Union Medical Center. The $55 million facility will be a combined hospital and medical office building intended to create a sustainable model for health care in Union County that centralizes physician practices, outpatient services, and inpatient care.
WBCU News spoke with Paul Newhouse, president of Union Medical Center, and we asked him to tell us more about the new facility:

Construction on the facility could start as early as this spring if all the permits are approved quickly. Newhouse said it could take close to two years to complete construction, and he said once they have power at the site, they plan to put up a camera there so people can view the progress on the building as it is built.
As for what will happen to the current Union Medical Center building, Newhouse said the county owns the building as part of the arrangement that happened when Spartanburg Regional took over. WBCU News will reach out to Supervisor Phillip Russell to find out what the county’s plans might be for that facility.
