Differences between hold, secure, and lockdown protocols explained

As the search for Richardson went on Wednesday morning, several Union County Schools were placed on what is known as secure protocol. A question was raised as to what the different levels of school security responses mean and what happens during them. Eric Childers, Director of Administration with the Union County School District, explains:

There are two other protocols that can be used, as well. “Evacuate” indicates conditions are unsafe in the school building and everyone needs to leave. This would be used in the case of a school fire or something similar. The other protocol is “shelter”, which is used during inclement weather.
