Wilburn running for seat currently held by Dr. Wanda All
As we have previously reported, Kelly Wilburn Shropshire has filed to run for the Union County School Board District 8 seat currently held by Dr. Wanda All. Shropshire sent out a release officially announcing her candidacy. You can read the full release on our WBCU Facebook page.
Her statement opens saying, “As a lifelong resident of Union County, a parent and a leader, I want to make sure that all our children and grandchildren continue to receive the best education possible.”
Shropshire is currently the Plant Quality Manager at Sonoco Plastics in Union, a post she has held for the past 7 years. She received a bachelor of science degree in accounting and master of science in industrial management from Clemson University. She is active at Buffalo Baptist Church, where she teaches Sunday School for the Young Adult Small Group class, serves on the children’s committee, and is WMU director.
Among her qualifications to run for school board, she says as a parent, she has two children in Union County schools and a stepdaughter who graduated from Union County Schools. She served on the School Improvement Council at Buffalo Elementary School last year. She says, “As a parent, I am involved with our child that has an IEP and our child that is in the Gifted and Talented program. I see all sides of our education system and I want to work to make sure that we keep programs, teachers, and resources in place to help ALL our children learn to the best of their ability.”
She says that character, education, experience, and integrity all play a role in making a person qualified to run, and she hopes that hers speak for themselves. She closes her statement by saying, “I would love to be the next generation leader and have the opportunity to represent and work with those in District 8 as we continue to move forward to make the best decisions for our teachers and students.”
In addition to Shropshire, Gene “Doc” Lipsey has filed for reelection to the District 4 seat, Mark Truitt has filed to run for the District 5 seat, and Dr. Jane Wilkes has filed for reelection to the District 9 seat. Nonpartisan filing continues until August 15 at noon.
