A personal note from Daniel
There will be a rare on-air personnel change on WBCU. Today is the last day that I will be hosting the 10-noon airshift on a regular basis. Kimberly will be taking over as the 10-12 host starting on Monday. I will still host the Union Pennzoil Kwik Lube Top 5 at 5 each afternoon, but I made the decision to give up the morning hosting for two reasons.
First, I wanted to focus more on the news and my other duties at the station. When I took on the role of news director in November 2020, I made a commitment to cover every area of Union County, and have been attending the monthly meetings of all the municipalities—Carlisle, Lockhart, and Jonesville—as well covering Union County Council, Union City Council, and Union County School Board. These meetings take time out of my schedule and away from my family. It leads to some late nights and some early mornings trying to get everything done I need to.
The second reason is that Kimberly is really good, and her talents need to be featured on air more often. She has more than 30 years in radio broadcasting. She hails from Kansas City, Missouri, but has worked at stations throughout the country. The late morning shift will be in good hands with her.
I am not going anywhere—I’ll still be doing the news and other duties at WBCU, and I will still host the top 5 at 5 each afternoon. I thank each listener who has taken the time to listen to me through the years, starting with the afternoon Drive with Daniel program back in 2004 on through my morning show hosting duties in more recent years. I won’t rule out returning to an on-air shift in the future, and I will be filling in for Chris and Kimberly from time to time. Thank you for your support and for listening to WBCU, Union County’s Radio Station.
